Battle Lab
A roguelike built on a design system for character art. A browser-based turn-based roguelike with hex grid combat and a deep mutation mechanic that modified characters’ abilities and visual appearance over time. Designed to integrate with NFTs — players who completed the game would receive an NFT of their final character’s unique appearance and stats, tradeable for multiplayer use.
Designed and built a modular SVG illustration system — essentially a design system for character art. Interchangeable components for head shapes, facial features, clothing, and limbs allowed procedural generation of unique character visuals. Arms could become chainsaws, legs could become tentacles, all within a consistent illustration framework.
The single-player version shipped publicly as an early-access game with constant updates over many months and a leaderboard with hundreds of active players. Included procedural level generation, pathfinding, enemy AI, items, mutations, and leveling systems. The NFT-integrated multiplayer version was shelved before launch.
